Then Make a Raft
Then Make a Raft

Completed right before the terrible fires hit California hard, this painting maps the spirit of our challenging times. This is what we have. We must live it. And there is beauty in that meeting.

Chan Master Mazu says it like this:

'To advance from where you can no longer advance,
and to do what can no longer be done,
you must make yourself into a raft or a ferryboat for others.'

How we do that matches our myriad selves. This painting is mine.
