All of a sudden they arrive and they are beautiful swift birds but their cries are jarring. So is the seasonal shift into early summer. They are the least melodic of the birds that come in waves and they haunt the little warblers and finches in the oaks. But we need them in the mix too. Their dark bits are the down notes that weave us into the brightness of the days.
