Does water burn? In a year when debris flows swallow whole cities, fires incinerate wildlands and obliterate neighborhoods, the Fire Rooster roars, in the white house too, and friends leave their lives and me behind; YES, water burns. The Prima Materia, that malleable Philosopher's Stone of the alchemists is humanity in this moment. It is just what we need now. It burns and dissolves, coagulates and reassembles and collaborates. This series of paintings is a watery-fiery bridge into the new. No tools or anchor points held except these uncertain steps. Stitch upon stitch, their water line reassembled me into fire, energy, life.
